Is a Cheap Laser Engraver Actually a Good Deal?
Summary
The base price alone won't tell you. Exhaust, safety gear, and the accessories your projects need can move the total a long way, and a single machine can nearly double in price from one bundle to the next. LightBurn, if you want it, is a separate purchase.
Bundles on one machine
Take the WeCreat Vision, an enclosed diode machine. On September 23, 2026, WeCreat's U.S. store listed the 20W Basic Pack at $1,040, the Rotary Pack at $1,240, the CleanAir Pack with a fume extractor at $1,440, and the Super Pack, which adds the fume extractor and a 2W infrared module, at $1,890, all at sale prices. The 45W Vision Pro ran from $1,910 for the Basic Pack to $3,190 for the Super Pack.
Sold on their own, the Rotary Pro for the Vision was $249 and the fume extractor for the Vision and Vista was $499. If you never engrave tumblers, the rotary adds nothing. If you already own an air purifier, the CleanAir Pack has less to offer you.
An open-frame machine at a low price leaves the enclosure and exhaust for you to supply when you work indoors. Most enclosed machines have the housing and safety interlocks built in, though some can still run with the lid open, so check the manual for the laser class and whether lid detection is on by default.
Software
Some machines run on the maker's free software. LightBurn is a one-time purchase: $99 for Core, which handles G-code controllers such as GRBL, or $199 for Pro, which adds galvo machines and DSP controllers such as Ruida. Each extra year of updates is $40, and there is a 30-day free trial.
